GizStreet publishes product reviews, evaluations, comparisons, buying guides, and specification-based analysis covering consumer technology, including smartphones, laptops, gadgets, apps, software, gaming products, and related technology.
This Review Methodology explains how we evaluate products, how we distinguish hands-on testing from research-based analysis, how we use external sources, and how we maintain editorial independence.
Our goal is to help readers understand a product’s capabilities, limitations, value, and suitability without presenting research-based analysis as first-hand testing.
1. Types of Product Coverage
Not every product article published by GizStreet is based on the same evaluation process.
Depending on product availability, access, and the purpose of the article, we may publish:
- Hands-on reviews
- Research-based product evaluations
- Specification analyses
- Product comparisons
- Buying guides
- First impressions
- Previews
- Product explainers
We aim to make the nature of the evaluation clear and do not intentionally imply that a product was physically tested by GizStreet when it was not.
2. Hands-On Reviews
An article may be described as a hands-on review when the author or GizStreet editorial team has directly used or tested the product.
Depending on the type of product, hands-on evaluation may consider areas such as:
- design and build quality;
- display quality;
- performance;
- battery life;
- cameras;
- software experience;
- usability;
- connectivity;
- thermals and noise;
- keyboard and trackpad quality;
- gaming performance;
- features and functionality;
- reliability during the review period;
- overall value.
Not every review requires the same tests. A smartphone, laptop, application, gaming accessory, and wearable device require different evaluation criteria.
Where relevant, we may describe the testing conditions or duration to provide additional context.
3. Research-Based Product Evaluations
GizStreet may also evaluate products that we have not physically tested.
These articles are based on research rather than first-hand experience and may use information from:
- official manufacturer specifications;
- official product documentation;
- user manuals;
- regulatory filings;
- software documentation;
- official announcements;
- retailer information;
- independent benchmark databases;
- reputable third-party testing;
- established technology publications;
- other reliable sources.
Research-based evaluations may analyze a product’s specifications, features, compatibility, positioning, pricing, strengths, limitations, and likely suitability for different users.
We do not intentionally describe subjective characteristics such as real-world battery life, comfort, camera quality, thermal performance, or long-term reliability as our own experience unless we have actually tested them.
4. Product Specifications
For technical specifications, we prefer primary sources whenever available.
These may include the manufacturer’s:
- official product page;
- technical specification page;
- support documentation;
- user manual;
- press release;
- developer documentation.
We may use reliable secondary sources when official information is unavailable, incomplete, or requires additional context.
If specifications vary by model, configuration, region, or software version, we aim to make that distinction clear where relevant.
5. Performance and Benchmarks
When GizStreet conducts its own performance testing, we aim to identify the results as our testing.
When benchmark or performance information comes from another source, we should attribute that information rather than presenting it as GizStreet’s own test result.
Performance can vary because of factors including:
- hardware configuration;
- software version;
- operating system;
- power settings;
- ambient temperature;
- drivers;
- workload;
- network conditions.
Benchmark results should therefore be interpreted as one part of a broader product evaluation rather than an absolute guarantee of performance.
6. Smartphones and Mobile Devices
When applicable, smartphone evaluations may consider:
- design and ergonomics;
- display;
- processor performance;
- cameras;
- battery life;
- charging;
- software experience;
- update policy;
- connectivity;
- storage;
- durability;
- pricing;
- competition.
For research-based smartphone coverage, we avoid presenting camera quality, battery endurance, thermal behavior, or other experiential characteristics as first-hand findings unless we have directly tested the device.
7. Laptops and Computers
Laptop and computer evaluations may consider:
- processor and graphics performance;
- memory and storage;
- display;
- keyboard and trackpad;
- ports and connectivity;
- battery life;
- thermal behavior;
- upgradeability;
- build quality;
- portability;
- software;
- price and value.
Where a laptop is available in multiple configurations, we aim to identify the configuration being discussed whenever that distinction materially affects the evaluation.
8. Gadgets and Accessories
Gadget coverage may include wearables, headphones, storage devices, smart-home products, peripherals, accessories, and other consumer technology.
Evaluation criteria depend on the product but may include:
- build quality;
- compatibility;
- functionality;
- ease of use;
- connectivity;
- performance;
- battery life;
- software support;
- reliability;
- price;
- competing products.
Claims about real-world performance should be based either on our own testing or clearly attributed external testing.
9. Apps and Software
Software and app evaluations may consider:
- functionality;
- interface and usability;
- platform compatibility;
- performance;
- pricing;
- subscription requirements;
- privacy considerations;
- security features;
- integrations;
- advertisements;
- limitations;
- update history.
Because applications and online services can change rapidly, features described in an article may differ from later versions.
Where appropriate, we identify the platform or software version used during an evaluation.
10. Gaming Products and Games
Gaming coverage may include games, consoles, handheld devices, gaming laptops, accessories, software, and related products.
Depending on the article, evaluation may consider:
- gameplay;
- graphics;
- performance;
- controls;
- accessibility;
- hardware compatibility;
- features;
- stability;
- value.
A game should not be presented as having been reviewed by GizStreet unless we have had appropriate access to the playable product.
For unreleased games, we distinguish between official information, previews, demonstrations, credible reports, rumors, and speculation.
11. Comparisons
Product comparisons aim to help readers understand meaningful differences between competing products.
We may compare factors such as:
- specifications;
- features;
- performance;
- software;
- ecosystem;
- compatibility;
- pricing;
- support;
- strengths and limitations;
- suitability for different users.
A comparison does not necessarily mean GizStreet has physically tested every product included.
When a comparison relies substantially on specifications and research, it should be presented as such.
12. Buying Guides
Buying guides are designed to help readers identify products that may suit particular needs or budgets.
Products may be selected based on factors including:
- features;
- specifications;
- independent testing;
- our own experience where available;
- pricing;
- availability;
- reliability;
- software support;
- competitive position;
- overall value.
Inclusion in a buying guide does not guarantee that GizStreet has physically tested every listed product.
We aim to avoid recommending products solely because they generate affiliate revenue.
13. Pricing and Availability
Prices and availability can change frequently.
Where pricing is included, it generally reflects information available at or around the time the article was researched or updated.
Actual prices may vary based on:
- retailer;
- country or region;
- configuration;
- promotions;
- taxes;
- shipping;
- availability.
Readers should verify current pricing and availability with the manufacturer or retailer before purchasing.
14. Review Units and Products Provided by Companies
Manufacturers, retailers, public-relations agencies, or other organizations may occasionally provide products for review or temporary testing.
Receiving a product does not guarantee:
- publication of a review;
- a positive review;
- a particular rating;
- inclusion in a buying guide;
- editorial approval by the manufacturer.
Where appropriate, we may disclose when a review unit was supplied by a manufacturer or another party.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, companies do not receive the right to approve independent editorial conclusions before publication.
15. Purchased Products
GizStreet may also review products purchased independently.
Whether a product was purchased by GizStreet, owned by an author, borrowed, or supplied for review should not determine the editorial conclusion.
The evaluation should be based on the product itself and the evidence available.
16. Affiliate Links
Some product-related articles may contain affiliate links.
If a reader makes a qualifying purchase through one of these links, GizStreet may receive a commission without increasing the price paid by the reader.
Affiliate relationships should not determine:
- which products receive favorable coverage;
- review conclusions;
- ratings;
- factual findings;
- whether significant weaknesses are disclosed.
Where required, affiliate relationships will be appropriately disclosed.
17. Advertising and Sponsored Products
Advertising relationships are separate from independent editorial evaluations.
An advertiser should not receive a more favorable review simply because it advertises on GizStreet.
If content is sponsored, paid for, or produced through a commercial partnership, we aim to label that relationship clearly rather than presenting sponsored material as an independent review.
18. Ratings and Recommendations
Where GizStreet uses ratings, scores, awards, or recommendations, they represent an editorial assessment rather than a scientific measurement.
Factors may include:
- performance;
- features;
- usability;
- reliability;
- pricing;
- competition;
- overall value.
A high rating does not mean a product is ideal for every reader.
Similarly, a product with limitations may still be appropriate for a particular type of user.
If GizStreet does not have sufficient evidence to provide a meaningful rating, we may publish an evaluation without a numerical score.
19. Artificial Intelligence
GizStreet may use artificial intelligence and other digital tools to assist with parts of the research and editorial workflow.
AI may assist with activities such as:
- organizing research;
- comparing specifications;
- summarizing source material;
- proofreading;
- structuring information;
- identifying areas requiring additional verification.
AI-generated information is not treated as an authoritative product source.
Important specifications, pricing, release information, performance claims, and other material facts should be checked against reliable sources before publication.
AI-generated claims should not be presented as product-testing results.
Editorial responsibility for published content remains with GizStreet.
20. Source Transparency
We aim to attribute significant information to its actual source whenever appropriate.
For example, rather than writing:
“Verified research confirms the laptop supports Wi-Fi 6E.”
we prefer:
“Acer’s official specifications list support for Wi-Fi 6E.”
Internal research terminology such as “verified research package,” “source package,” or similar workflow language should not appear in published product evaluations.
When reliable confirmation is unavailable, we aim to state that limitation rather than present uncertain information as fact.
21. Rumors and Unreleased Products
An unreleased or rumored product cannot receive a conventional hands-on review unless GizStreet has legitimately obtained appropriate access to it.
Coverage of unreleased products may instead be presented as:
- news;
- rumor coverage;
- leak analysis;
- preview;
- specification analysis;
- “what we know” coverage.
Rumored specifications, pricing, release dates, and features should be clearly identified as unconfirmed unless supported by official information.
We update coverage when reliable new information becomes available.
22. Corrections and Updates
Technology products and software change frequently.
Reviews and evaluations may be updated because of:
- software updates;
- firmware changes;
- corrected specifications;
- pricing changes;
- newly discovered issues;
- additional testing;
- new official information;
- product recalls or significant manufacturer announcements.
If we discover a material factual error, we aim to correct it according to our Corrections Policy.
Minor formatting, grammar, or style changes may be made without a formal correction notice.
23. How We Decide What to Recommend
Our recommendations aim to answer a practical question:
Who is this product suitable for, and who should consider something else?
Rather than declaring one product universally “best,” we may consider different user requirements such as:
- budget;
- performance;
- portability;
- battery life;
- gaming;
- photography;
- productivity;
- software ecosystem;
- compatibility;
- long-term support.
Where appropriate, reviews should explain both strengths and limitations.
24. Our Commitment to Readers
Our objective is not to convince readers to purchase every product we cover.
Our objective is to provide enough reliable information and context for readers to make their own informed decisions.
We aim to clearly distinguish:
What we tested.
What manufacturers claim.
What reliable external sources found.
What remains unverified.
What represents our editorial assessment.
This distinction is central to GizStreet’s review methodology.
